Management - Essay Example He subsequently underwent a partial hip arthroplasty to repair his hip damage and allow him to regain mobility. He is hypertensive and is taking medications to maintain his blood pressure. He also has gouty arthritis and is slightly overweight. 2. Pathological changes a. Limitations on his mobility. Despite the hip replacement procedure, the patient would still likely experience limited mobility. He would have difficulty moving from one place to another; he would have difficulty sitting up, sitting down, standing, walking, and carrying out his activities due to his physical limitations. He would also have difficulty in going to and from the bathroom; and he would likely need assistance in moving about the residential facility. He would also undergo painful rehabilitation exercises and physical changes in his life. b. Depression. Having been recently widowed after the death of his wife of more than 50 years, he is also being forced to face the fact that he would spend the twilight yea rs of his life without his wife. With his recent mishap, he is also likely to feel despair from his condition and such depression and despair would likely affect the success (or lack thereof) of his rehabilitative process. Depression is a major setback during the rehabilitative and recovery process for any patient. Ronald manifests symptoms of giving up, and of not trying hard enough to help himself recover and to improve his physical condition. This depression is also attributed to his recent loss and his advancement in age. Many elderly patients have to deal with this condition as they are brought face to face with the possibility of dying, of not being able to contribute anything to society, of losing a partner, and of being alone. c. Gouty arthritis. His arthritis is a major limitation to his mobility. Before his fracture, there were already deformities seen in his joints due to his gouty arthritis. Inflammation of his joints attributed to his arthritis caused much pain and diff iculty in walking and in moving about. After the fracture, his arthritis has slowed down his rehabilitation; it is impacting on his mobility, making it difficult to move about and to carry out the physical therapy and occupational therapy exercises. 3. Nursing care needs a. Patient/resident specific care needs: Total hip replacement The patient underwent partial hip replacement after his hips were fractured. It is a procedure meant to remove and replace the acetabulum or the femoral neck. This surgery is an inpatient procedure, therefore the proper preoperative care must be carried out in behalf of the patient. He must be informed that he needs to prepare for a 3 or 4 day hospital stay. After the surgery, the patient is immediately started with his physical therapy (Gilbey, et.al., 2003). This includes transfer training and walking. The nurse would assist the patient and the physical therapist in his transfers and in his walking (Hol, et.al., 2009). This initial training would inclu de the use of a walker in these transfers. After such training, a transition to crutches or canes may be made. The nurse must assist the patient in the proper use of the crutches or canes (Hol, et.al., 2009). The nurse must also ensure that there are no physical barriers which would interfere with the patient’s use of these assistive walking devices. Regular exercises to strengthen muscles must be carried out with the patient; the nurse would help encourage the patient to carry out these exercises. Such methods help ensure that the patient would eventually and safely regain his mobility and independence (Gilbey, et.al., 2003). The nurse would also have to teach and work with the patient in order to perform his activities of daily living. These

Reflective Report includee 2 tasks M Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words - 1

Reflective Report includee 2 tasks M - Essay Example I also expected to combine work and study in order to finance my personal needs, acquire valuable work experience as well as improve my professional network. I have learned how to live in a multicultural environment since I came to the UK even though there were a lot of challenges in adapting to the life in UK. I have also become a more sociable and confident person from interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds. I have been exposed to different experiences and cultures of which I wouldn’t have if I was not in the UK. Before I came to the UK I was very shy unlike now. It was not easy for me to make major decision all by myself but the experience here has made me more independent. Among the things I have learnt at Greenwich is how to combine both the theoretical and practical aspects of my studies in real life situations. This has been very helpful to me since theory doesn’t always aid one in getting a placement, an internship or a job. Given that English is not my first language, communication proved quite an uphill task for me at first but I eventually had to learn how to use it fluently. I have learnt to improve my English by wide range of educative books such as those which target international student learning English. This was very useful in the beginning since English in such books is written in a manner that is somewhat simplified. This made it easy for me to learn and understand English. I also sharpened my skills by frequently watching English TV episodes. This made learning more fun. I also engaged in discussions with my fellow student. This improved my communication skills since I can now confidently express myself in English. Since I started learning at the Greenwich University, my study skills have greatly improved. I have learnt to always prepare for my classes at the most appropriate time. For classes that involve recitation, I spend time making questions regarding previous recitation, brushing up on the

Assignment2 - Research Paper Example Most importantly, there are popular people in the world who get a lot of attention thus the whole society as a whole seeks to follow and fodder for their information. The term media in the simplest and most basic sense refers to the avenue where information is shared or passed from one source to the recipient. In the recent past, there have been changes, modifications, advancements and improvements in the fields and sectors of technology therefore the definition of media has changed. Accordingly, there has been the concept and notion of social media which encompasses avenues such as you tube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram where information is passed and shared uncensored and an unedited. This paper will thus look at the extent to which the media inclusive of the social media could influence the behavior of the teenage girls (Martin & Bush, 2000). In principle, this article and text will discuss and look into the exact ways in which the media affects behaviors of girls. In form of a hypothesis, this paper will explore how the media affects dress codes and fashion patterns or inclinations of teenage girls. Fashion also encompasses and covers the way in which a celebrity or a popular person poses to represent themselves and the background identity as a whole. A practical case and instance is the way Britney Spears did pose in magazines in 1999, the implication it had on the teen girls and what that instance or posing could influence and impact the behavior of girls. Tentatively, this research paper will be exploratory in nature, stemming from the fact that it does not have any static hypothesis which would be sought to be confirmed or disapproved. In principle, the research paper will be free-flowing and self-guiding, therefore the conclusion that would be made would be informed by facts and figures obtained in the course of the research paper. Given the nature of this research and study it would be proper to obtain first-hand information from the

Exam Questions Article Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Exam Questions - Article Example This argument is also explained in the 2008 National Defense Strategy (NDS) document. â€Å"The most important military component of the struggle against violent extremists is not the fighting we do ourselves, but how well we help prepare our partners to defend and govern themselves† (NDS 2008, P8). This statement, found in the national defense strategy of 2008 helps one understand President Obama’s words better. He does not seek to eliminate the extremist threat from Afghanistan simply through brute force. Rather, he advocates sending additional troops to the country to stabilize the situation there and create an environment where the Afghan security forces can be trained to hold their own against the extremist threat. Once that task is accomplished, the US would not need to be an active participant in the war against Al Qaeda and its associates in the country and could withdraw its troops subsequently assured that no threat to its own national security would be foster ed in Afghanistan. 2. The 2008 national defense strategy clearly states that its intent is to counterbalance the DoD’s hitherto approach of concentrating on conventional warfare through a ‘mastery of irregular warfare’. ... The 2008 NDS aims to focus on winning wars such as those in Iraq and Afghanisthan through more than just sheer military power. It recognizes the threat posed by their enemies in the more overt forms visible today as well as the less obvious ones such as the manipulation of global opinion through mass communication venues and through exploitation of international commitments and legal avenues. The strategy also advocates bolstering intelligence capabilities to detect and analyze new forms of warfare and come up with strategies and approaches to counter the same. One can take the attitude of the US towards Afghanistan as a fitting example of this new approach. Rather than simply annexing the country and weeding out elements of extremist violence posing a threat to their national security, the US has chosen to help the people of the country gain control of their own lands and successfully defend it from the Al Qaeda and Taliban. By doing so, they not only weaken their foes in the countr y, but also make the country impervious to their influence, effectively cutting them off from the safe haven and the weapon supplies that they hitherto enjoyed over there. By concentrating on irregular warfare, the NDS looks to ensure a lasting and less expensive (in terms of funds as well as loss to life and property) war for America’s security. 3. The US foreign policy towards Somalia, as mentioned in the 2007 report, aims to eliminate the terrorist threat in the country and bring political stability to it, by helping the people establish a functioning central government. It also aims to address the humanitarian needs of the Somali people. One of the major interests for the United States of America in Somalia

Education based on two readings, one from Poor Economics and one from Assignment

Education based on two readings, one from Poor Economics and one from The Elusive Quest for Growth - Assignment Example s chairman Jacques Delors state, ‘education is one of the principle means available to foster a deeper and more harmonious form of human development and thereby to reduce poverty, exclusion, ignorance, oppression and war’. This has developed consciousness of the people in the developing countries acquisition of education shall assess these people to overcome poverty. The claims that the education shall simultaneously bring social, economical and cultural prosperity has capture minds of these people, as a result there has been a rapid increase in the primary and secondary schools. Easterly (2001), in the article highlights the adverse impacts of education with the help of different statistical information of different countries. He states that response of economic growth with the educational explosion lacks association (Easterly). According to Easterly no positive relation between economic growth and the growth in schooling has been observed this is because of the reason of rapid growth in human capital (Easterly). Due to the massive expansion of the education there has been a significant decline in the growth of output per workers during 1980’s. The study highlights that the initial schooling has a positive result on the productivity growth, whereas the countries with the high initial human capital can grow faster through indirect effect of human capital on the growth productivity (Banerjee and Duflo). In addition, the growth rate of countries has been associated with the human capital growth; the studies show that the key of the development is based on the capital growth and physical capital contribution. This eventually decreases young workers as they are engaged with their studies. On the other hand, the wages increase with the experiences due to which it lowers human capital.
